Karen Hibbard is a print media artist with 5 years of teaching experience at the University of Manitoba (2007-2012). She completed a Masters of Fine Art from Concordia University (2000).

In 2012, she will be working on her digital animation ‘Debris/Détritus’ in residence at CAMAC-Centre d’Art, France. Continuing with the theme of recycling, Karen offers metaphors for patterns of behaviour and environmental issues. Her work takes the form of installation and includes drawing, media arts, and sculpture.

She completed an artist residency in Denmark in 2008 and made photogravure prints for “Ephemeras”.  It is a look at the visual “paths”, “patterns” and the “gestures” found in daily ritual. This series continues an engagement with behavioural patterns and in this case pathologies.

She was an artist member with the print cooperative, Open Studio (Toronto), for 10 years. Currently, she is an artist member at Martha Street Studio (Winnipeg). In addition, she was on the Board of Directors at Studio XX, a feminist cooperative of media artists from 2004-2006. 

She has been active with the “Month of Printmaking’ in Québec and shown prints in several group shows, including; Galerie Graff and Stewart Hall Museum (May 2006). She won Le prix d’excellence at the Biennale de l’Art et le Papier VII organized by Galerie Jean-Claude-Bergeron (Ottawa, June 2006). There is a catalogue available through the gallery. She exhibited her work at Harcourt House (Edmonton), La Maison culturelle et communautaire Montréal-Nord in 2009 as well as the new faculty show called “Revolver” at Gallery 111, University of Manitoba.

Her work is in numerous collections, such as; La Banque Nationale du Canada and Loto-Québec. She has shown work in Tokyo, New York, Seattle as well as throughout Canada (Alberta, Ontario, Québec, Newfoundland and Manitoba).

Her video work is distributed by Video Pool and she is represented by IMA Gallery in Seattle, Washington. French »
